Prevention and control of Communicable Diseases

HIV-AIDS

 

Providing technical assistance to the National AIDS Programme (NAP) in its efforts to prevent HIV infection and provide comprehensive care and support to people living with HIV-AIDS (PLHA) including:

*     Supporting the development of HIV-AIDS related policies;

*     Supporting the development of human resources capacity building through local and international training of health and other staff on sexually transmitted infections (STI) management, HIV clinical management, targeted condom promotion program, HIV testing and counselling, laboratory support to blood safety and quality control for HIV testing;

*     Supporting the NAP efforts for scaling up care and support to PLHA through the implementation of a comprehensive package of care and support including voluntary confidential counselling and testing (VCCT), anti-retroviral therapy (ART) implementation, opportunistic infection control and prevention and community and home base care for PLHA;

*     Implementing TB-HIV joint programme efforts.

*     Technical support provided to the substance abuse control project of the Department of Health for the piloting and expansion of methadone substitution programme for injecting drug users.

*     Advocacy, raising commitment for HIV-AIDS prevention and control and resource mobilization including TB-HIV joint efforts.

*     Organizing and assisting external reviews of the various HIV-AIDS related projects.

*     Strengthening and facilitating partnership with other national and international stakeholders for HIV-AIDS prevention and control.

*     Providing logistic support including the procurement of laboratory equipment, drugs and other commodities.

*     Providing technical assistance in monitoring and evaluation and quality assurance including tools and implementation of external quality assessment for HIV serology (EQAS) in public health laboratories.
