five-year strategic plan for reproductive health (RH):
providing skilled care during pregnancy,
delivery, new born, postnatal;
providing sexual and reproductive health
information, education and services for young people;
providing of birth spacing and contraceptive
services, and reproductive tract infections/sexually transmitted infections
information and services;
providing post abortion care;
providing post menopausal care and screening
and treatment of cervical and breast cancer;
promoting men's role in support of
reproductive health;
promotion of
community awareness on the knowledge about: pregnancy, childbirth and newborn
care, danger sign, role of family and community in birth preparation and
referral, transportation in case of emergency.
Supporting the Ministry of Health on
implementation of gender and women's health programme.
Providing support for reproductive health in Myanmar and
strengthening linkages between WHO Myanmar and reproductive health partners.
Strengthened monitoring and evaluation.

Dissemination of implementation plan for child health
development strategy in Myanmar 2011-2012
|
|
The second “Five-Year Strategic Plan for Child Health
Development 2010-2014” was developed during 2010 and was disseminated to
all relevant stakeholders in June, 2010. This was followed by dissemination
of the first 2 year implementation plan of activities according to
strategic guidelines of the strategic plan. WHO/SEARO had given technical
assistance for identifying the activities. Dr Vijay Kumar, Retired
Director, WHO/SEARO, in collaboration with Department of Health (DOH), WHO
and UNICEF (5 to 10 September 2010) identified the activities and targets.

The Ministry of Health, Government of Myanmar is taking
prompt actions in response to contaminated milk powder issue. The Government
of Myanmar has conducted search for possible contaminated milk formula in
the market, initiated testing for melamine in milk products and increased
surveillance for affected children by asking paediatrician
to report infants seeking treatment for renal problems and having history
of feeding with infant milk formula. The Ministry of Health (MoH), UNICEF and WHO are actively supporting promotion
of safe feeding for infants and urging parents to ensure exclusive
breastfeeding for their infants for the first six months...

Trawlergies for
maternal and newborn emergency transport
|

UNFPA Strategic Partnership Programme
with WHO implemented key activities in 2006-2007 on "Strengthening
Continuum of Maternal and Newborn Health Services" . One of these was expansion of referral
system of essential obstetric and newborn care. To facilitate timely
transfers in emergency maternal and newborn management, especially for the
hard to reach villages, UNFPA/WHO/DoH had
distributed 25 trawlergies, a mini truck tractor,
as part of program activity to strengthen Reproductive Health. These were provided to the five programme townships, Myaung, Monywa, Salingyi, Khin U and Wetlet
Townships in Sagaing Division in December 2006. An assessment on the
usefulness, drawbacks, gaps and constraints on this form of assistance was
conducted between 1st to 5th July by Department of Health, Department of
Medical Research (Lower Myanmar), UNFPA and WHO in collaboration as a team...
