Reproductive Health & Newborn Care

 

*     Providing technical support to the Ministry of Health in implementation of Myanmar five-year strategic plan for reproductive health (RH):

*     providing skilled care during pregnancy, delivery, new born, postnatal;

*     providing sexual and reproductive health information, education and services for young people;

*     providing of birth spacing and contraceptive services, and reproductive tract infections/sexually transmitted infections information and services;

*     providing post abortion care;

*     providing post menopausal care and screening and treatment of cervical and breast cancer;

*     promoting men's role in support of reproductive health;

*     promotion of community awareness on the knowledge about: pregnancy, childbirth and newborn care, danger sign, role of family and community in birth preparation and referral, transportation in case of emergency.

*     Supporting the Ministry of Health on implementation of gender and women's health programme.

*     Providing support for reproductive health in Myanmar and strengthening linkages between WHO Myanmar and reproductive health partners.

*     Strengthened monitoring and evaluation.

 

 

 

 

“National Five Year Strategic Plan for Child Health Development (2010-2014)” disseminated

Countdown 2015 is approaching and Myanmar is facing  a great challenge to achieve MDG4 targets. The new  Five Year Strategic Plan for Child Health Development (2010-2014) really becomes an important position to expedite child survival activities.

ENSURE SAFE FEEDING FOR INFANTS AND INCREASE VIGILANCE

The Ministry of Health, Government of Myanmar is taking prompt actions in response to contaminated milk powder issue. The Government of Myanmar has conducted search for possible contaminated milk formula in the market, initiated testing for melamine in milk products and increased surveillance for affected children by asking paediatrician to report infants seeking treatment for renal problems and having history of feeding with infant milk formula. Trawlergies for maternal and newborn emergency transport

UNFPA Strategic Partnership Programme with WHO implemented key activities in 2006-2007 on "Strengthening Continuum of Maternal and Newborn Health Services" .  One of these was expansion of referral system of essential obstetric and newborn care. To facilitate timely transfers in emergency maternal and newborn management, especially for the hard to reach villages, UNFPA/WHO/DoH had distributed 25 trawlergies, a mini truck tractor, as part of program activity to strengthen Reproductive Health.  These were provided to the five programme townships, Myaung, Monywa, Salingyi, Khin U and Wetlet Townships in Sagaing Division in December 2006.
